Abstract

Postoperative pain is one of the common problems experienced by patients after cesarean section and may interfere with comfort and recovery. This community service activity aimed to improve patients' knowledge and skills in applying autogenic relaxation combined with instrumental music and to identify changes in pain intensity after the intervention. The activity was conducted among 30 post-cesarean section patients in the Wijayakusumah Ward of dr. Soekardjo Hospital, Tasikmalaya, during 22 June–24 July 2026. The participants were patients in the first 12–24 hours after conventional cesarean section who were conscious, able to communicate, and willing to participate. The intervention consisted of direct education followed by a video-guided autogenic relaxation technique accompanied by instrumental music. Knowledge was assessed using pretest and posttest instruments, skills were assessed through direct observation, and pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale. Before the intervention, 70% of participants had moderate knowledge and 30% had good knowledge. After the intervention, all participants (100%) were categorized as having good knowledge. All participants (100%) were also able to perform the relaxation technique appropriately. Regarding pain intensity, 96.7% of participants experienced moderate pain before the intervention, whereas after the intervention, 76.7% experienced mild pain and 23.3% experienced moderate pain. These findings indicate that autogenic relaxation combined with instrumental music may be used as a complementary non-pharmacological approach to support postoperative pain management after cesarean section.
