Analisis Penerjemahan dan Fungsi Sosial Metafora dalam Buku Memoar “Broken Strings” karya Aurélie Moeremans

Abstract

The use of metaphorical figurative language in a literary work is usually used by authors as an effort to express discourse to make it more alive and rich in meaning. "Broken Strings", a memoir by Aurélie Moeremans, is an example of a literary work that uses metaphorical figurative language. The aim of writing this article is to analyze the translation of metaphors from English (SL) into Indonesian (TL) in the book, as well as the social functions contained in these metaphors. This research is motivated by the lack of research that specifically reviews the role of figurative language styles in a stylistic perspective. The research method uses descriptive qualitative with stylistic analysis techniques that refer to Newmark's translation theory as the main reference. The research results show that the metaphors in the memoir book "Broken Strings" by Aurélie Moeremans use structural metaphors, namely metaphors that compare two different concepts using the same structure, such as the use of the "broken strings" metaphor to describethe condition of the victim who has been freed from an emotional bond that is destructive and causes trauma. These findings indicate that the use of metaphor in Aurelie Moeremans' writing style has a significant stylistic function which is able to strengthen aesthetic power and create a foregrounding effect.
