Abstract

This study examines the contribution of the creative economy based on woven ikat to the economic independence of the congregation at St. Maria Assumpta Kadimbil Station. The creative economy has emerged as a strategic sector in strengthening local communities, particularly through the utilization of local cultural potential such as traditional woven ikat. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach, involving observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The findings reveal that the woven ikat creative economy contributes significantly to the economic independence of the congregation through three main mechanisms: (1) increasing household income of weavers, (2) creating employment opportunities, and (3) developing culture-based tourism destinations. The weaving activities enable women to contribute to family economy without abandoning their domestic roles. However, challenges such as limited capital, difficulties in raw material procurement, and limited market access remain significant obstacles. The study implies that strengthening the woven ikat creative economy requires an integrated approach involving government support, institutional capacity building, and market access expansion to achieve sustainable economic independence for the congregation.
