Penyuluhan Interaktif Mitos dan Fakta Kesehatan Gigi dan Mulut menggunakan Media Flip Card pada Remaja Pesantren

Oral and dental health problems remain a significant public health concern, particularly among adolescents. Limited knowledge and the persistence of myths circulating in the community can negatively influence oral health behaviors. Therefore, effective promotive and preventive educational efforts that are engaging and easy to understand are needed. The use of interactive visual educational media, such as flip cards presenting myths and facts related to oral and dental health, is expected to improve adolescents’ understanding while simultaneously supporting early detection of oral health conditions through direct dental examinations. Methods: The activity was conducted at As-Salam Islamic Boarding School, Surakarta, on October 19, 2025, involving 20 female students from class X-5. Interactive counseling using flip card media containing myths and facts about oral and dental health was conducted, followed by a question-and-answer session and free dental examinations. Participants’ understanding was evaluated using a post-test after the educational session. Results: The evaluation showed that 18 out of 20 participants (90%) were able to correctly distinguish between myths and facts after the counseling session. Dental examinations revealed that most participants had caries in permanent molar teeth, and some had persistent deciduous teeth. Conclusion: Interactive counseling using flip card media effectively improved students’ knowledge of oral and dental health myths and facts and facilitated the identification of oral health conditions. This approach may serve as an effective promotive and preventive educational strategy in Islamic boarding schools.
